On January 18th, Terabridges attended the Polka Dot Scrimmage hosted by Girls of Steel Robotics. The event took place at Carnegie Mellon University’s student center and was conducted from 8AM to 3PM.
Shortly before the rounds began, the event organizers gave a motivating speech to all of the participating teams. Terabridges would be appearing in a total of 5 rounds, two rounds before lunch intermission and three rounds after.
In our first round, we were paired up with Defenders² from Odin Wise Academy on the Blue Alliance. The match began with Terabridges in the net zone, and Defenders² in the Observation zone with Terabridges scoring the majority of the points in Autonomous. After the 30 second period, the drivers picked up their controllers and began operating the robot themselves. The round concluded in a victory of 83 (Red) – 99 (Blue).
In our second round, we were paired up with ROGO: Lotus, another robotics team from USC school district on the Blue Alliance. During the Teleop portion of the match, Terabridges went for the high baskets by collecting samples from the main area and the observation zone. The round went smoothly and we were able to secure another victory of 50 (Red) – 78 (Blue).
During lunch, we were able enjoy a delicious lunch of pizza that was ordered by our amazing coaches!
In our third round, we were paired up with Mega Amps from Mckeesport Area High School on the Red Alliance. Unfortunately, prior to the round, Mega Amps’ robot was facing some wiring difficulties and their robot could not participate in the round. Even with this disadvantage, Terabridges was still able to win by a landslide with a score of 107 (Red) – 25 (Blue).
In our fourth round, we were paired up with Ellis Robotics from Ellis School on the Blue Alliance. Although we managed to get over a hundred points, we unfortunately lost this round 131 (Red) – 101 (Blue).
In our fifth and final round, we were paired up with Terabytes on the Red Alliance. Both of our groups focused on high baskets, so for this round we decided to shut down our autonomous to avoid collisions. We ended the scrimmage off on a good note with a victory of 134 (Red) – 91 (Blue).
We placed 5th by the end of the day and overall scrimmage went smoothly and was a good send off for our V1 robot. We hope that we can succeed further at the next event with V2!
