On December 15th, Terabridges attended the York Greyhound Sprint Qualifier. The event spanned for two days from the 14th to the 15th, but we only attended the second day. The day before the event, the team drove for around 4 hours to get to York. After the arrival we had a team dinner at an Indian restaurant in the area.
The next day at the venue, the team arrived and set up the robot and area assigned to us. Being one of the first to be interviewed, we left the gym area and went to give our 5 minute presentation in front of the judges. While waiting for other teams to finish their interviews, we tested our robot a few times on the practice field.
For our first qualification round we were paired with BotBusters #14464 and started off strong winning 135 – 101. Unfortunately, a portion of our robot started malfunctioning after this start and the next few rounds went a bit roughley. In our second qualification round aligned with Warwick Robotic Pretzels #23598 we sadly lost 70 – 99. Following that, we were paired with Jaybots #6378 where we again lost by 212 – 123. In the third round we were in an alliance with Fayette County 4H #16011 where we lost 204 – 170. In our last qualifying round, when paired with FIRST Try #21364 we were able to turn our luck around and win 212 – 105.
However this last victory was not able to push us into the Double Elimination rounds on our own. By discussing with other higher ranked teams, we managed to make it into the final round by pairing up Fayette County 4H #16011 again.
Although we didn’t place in the end, we ended up winning the Inspire Award! Even though we are now guaranteed to go to states, we will continue to work harder to improve our robot and portfolio.
